Sweet Spiced Pork Kebabs

One of the troubling things that I have been dealing with lately is digestive issues. While we’re attempting to figure out what’s causing my problems, I’ve been doing some research on natural solutions that could help rightsize my gut.

I stumbled across the Low FODMAP diet. FODMAPS are carbohydrates that the small intestine has trouble digesting and, apparently, restricting their consumption can help improve digestive function.¹ Now, I haven’t fully investigated the Low FODMAP evidence (keep watch for a post in the near future), but I figured it couldn’t hurt to incorporate some Low FODMAP recipes into my diet. Here’s one that was super delicious – and really not out of the ordinary of what I would typically eat.

Sweet Spiced Pork Kebabs

A sweet and savory kebab that will be sure to satisfy! Adapted from a recipe seen on VeryWellFit.

Nutritional Info Per Kebob (per VeryWellFit): 89 calories, 4.5g fat, 1.5g saturated fat, 23.5g cholesterol, 66mg sodium, 4.5g carbs, .5g fiber, 3.5g sugar, 8g protein


  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pound pork loin chop
  • 1/2 cup packed fresh basil (18 large leaves)
  • 18 large red globe grapes


  1. Combine cumin, allspice, cardamom, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cut pork into even cubes.
  3. Add pork to mixing bowl of spices and mix until all pork cubes are evenly coated in spices.
  4. Start the kebab process. Start with a piece of pork on the end.
  5. Next, wrap a basil leaf around a grape and skewer them together. Make sure the leaf is skewered on both ends of the grape to hold it in place.
  6. Alternate pork cubes and grapes until each kebab has 4 cubes of pork and 3 wrapped grapes. Make sure to start and end each kebab with pork.
  7. Grill the Kebabs for about 10 minutes or until pork is sufficiently cooked.
  8. Serve with your choice of sides (I liked white rice and steamed veggies to continue the Low FODMAP theme!)

This recipe has been a hit in my household. It’s quick and easy to prepare, and pork just pairs so well with the sweetness of the grapes. This recipe also helped me to discover the magic that is cooked basil-wrapped-grapes. The basil and grapes together form an incredible combination of flavors… to the point where I even considered making them alone as a snack!
